We believe that the Christian life is a call to service!  As a congregation, we direct our time, talent and financial gifts to projects and programs aimed at helping others.  There are many opportunities for Service and Mission here at San Pedro - you can be involved for a few minutes, an hour, an afternoon, a day, or on a regular basis depending on your particular needs and desires.  We can certainly use your assistance in any of the following outreach ministries.

Habitat for Humanity

We participate with this worldwide ministry in conjunction with other local Presbyterian churches. We build the house from foundation to landscaping. This past winter we built two houses – it was phenomenal. Our “build” is a bit unusual from the normal Habitat “build” as we also work in conjunction with the Department of Corrections. For more information contact Gene Trevino.

Repair and Modification Program (RAMP)

We assist elderly and disabled persons by doing a variety of repairs including handicap modifications, wheelchair ramps, widening doors, repairing/modifying bathrooms, rebuilding porches and the like.

The program is an outgrowth of Habitat for Humanity and is now separately funded and managed by San Antonio Alternative Housing Corp. Our Presbyterian cluster of churches has agreed to provide VOLUNTEERS on the third Saturday of each month. Each church will be involved no more than twice a year. This is a great opportunity for both novices and those with some carpentry skills to make a difference in someone's life. A skilled leader will provide materials and will train and guide volunteers.

All you have to do is show up at the site at 8:00am (with your lunch packed), willing to work. You will be finished by mid-afternoon, project complete, leaving someone smiling and more able to continue living in their own home.

For more information contact Gene Trevino.

House of Neighborly Services

This is a local ministry we support financially as well as in the giving of our time and donations. We collect non-perishable food items and clothing which are brought down monthly to the Service. The shelves and closets are never full there…this is a very tangible way that anyone can help their neighbor. Check out their web site or contact Betty Hayes.

SAMM Shelter

(SAMM) is a shelter that provides thousands of meals a year and overnight housing for individuals and longer term housing for families. We support this ministry through financial gifts and our member participation at the shelter. Check out their web site or contact Gene Trevino if you have an interest.

Nuestra Casa Boys and Girls Homes

Nuestra Casa is for children in difficult situations and is supported financially by our church.  For more information contact Gene Trevino.

Presbyterian Children's Homes

Since 1903 in its beginnings as an orphanage in Dallas, Presbyterian Children’s Homes has been providing full time residential care for children who have no place else to turn. They provide total care for each child who lives in one of their nine homes, including all food, shelter, clothing, medical and dental care, braces, tutors and psychological counseling if necessary, and anything else they can think of to help show the children under their care that they are a beloved child of God.

We support this home financially, for children in difficult situations. For additional information, click here to visit their website or contact Penny Jeffrey.

San Antonio Urban Ministry

SAUM is a combination of several ministries from After School Kare to Fairweather Lodge for women. We support this ministry both through financial giving and through support of members active involvement. Check out their web site or contact Gene Trevino if you have an interest.

Schreiner University

Since its inception in 1917, Schreiner University has been a Presbyterian institution, and throughout its history, it has maintained this historic connection. We support this coeducational college with time and money. Rev. Calvin Reynolds is currently serving as trustee. Schreiner University has been listed every year as one of the top regional liberal arts colleges in the western United States by the prestigious U.S. News & World Report's America's Best Colleges Guide. Check out their web site or contact Dr. Calvin Reynolds for more information.

Mexico Mission Trip

Annually, we drive down to Reynosa, Mexico which is just across the border from McAllen, Texas and spend a week building houses. Please join us as SPPC and Faith Ministry pour the foundation, brick up the walls and place the roof on a house for a family that has been literally living in a shack made from most anything (cardboard, wood scraps, junk). The families that move into these houses are really in a state of shock. They can't believe they have a house to call their own! And, we find it hard to believe that we built it. This trip will change your life plus you have the opportunity to meet people who may become life long friends.

Who can go? - Adults, High School Students or Junior High School students accompanied with a parent.

Wow! What a great idea but... If you think missions are a great idea but are unable to come with us, you can still have a profound effect. We also bring a pickup truck full of assistance items for the families and churches in the area. If you would like to sponsor a mission trip participant or if you would like to send a gift, please let us know. You are guaranteed that 100% of your funds (which are tax deductible) will go directly to this mission trip.

For more information call 494-6560 or Email Gene Trevino.

Christian Assistance Ministry (CAM)

CAM provides immediate needs for people in crisis situations.  We provide financial support to CAM through our donations. For more information contact Shirley Huffman.

Bloodmobile

We need your blood. Well, actually the community needs your blood. The bloodmobile comes to San Pedro Presbyterian Church once a quarter on a Sunday morning giving everyone the opportunity to donate blood. A needle may not strike you as fun but we do have a good time kibitzing with each other while providing the community and San Pedro church members the potentially life saving miracle of blood. For more information on how you might help, contact Kathy Bonifield.

Alternative Gift Market

This is an opportunity to give meaningful Christmas gifts to your friends and relatives and to help a very worthwhile mission project.  For more information call 494-6560 or Email Bobbie Kelner.
